Cultural Education in Dorset

We have been working closely with Dorset County Council over the last two years, supporting them to ‘spin out’ their arts development services into a public sector mutual and turn Little Keep, Dorchester, into a creative and cultural industries hub. The Arts Development Company CIC launched in September 2015 and is now carrying forward the arts, creative and cultural education brief in the county.

Work is continuing to utilise the Cultural Education Hub hosted by WAVE and SoundStorm as one of the central foci for further partnerships working in the area, with the Arts Development Company also taking a leading role. We have been supporting the strategic development of Wave and Soundstorm via an IP and delivering a range of level 2 training for them involving a wide range of local partners. If you want to find out more about the Arts Development Company and join or attend the hub please contact Rosie Russell at This email address is being protected from spambots. As Bridge organisation for the south west we have compiled a range of infographics drawing together data from ACE and from government to give an overview of cultural education in Dorset. This snapshot will help anyone interested in cultural education in Dorset have a greater understanding of the context for children and young people in this locality. The data may also help with bid writing and comparing with other localities as well as for identifying priorities in each area. We’ll be reviewing these quarterly and will update them with any new figures that are available.

There are some really interesting tools and data sets which are freely available – including the Arts Council’s ‘cultural education data toolkit’ – along with a range of other databases focussed on cost of interventions for children and young people, disadvantage, health and education. You can take a look at these resources using the links below.

We supported ACE to launch the national Cultural Education Challenge in the county on 14 January 2016.

Briefings and training events

We run a range of briefing and training events throughout the year, designed to support anyone in the south west working with young people around arts and culture.

We don’t have any scheduled events in Dorset right now.
