Cultural Education in Plymouth

Creativity and culture are buzzing in Plymouth, with new venues, festivals and events springing up. The energy of young makers is at the heart of these developments, from Outpost to Native Makers; Exim to Street Factory; and Young Rewired State to Code Clubs.

Plymouth Culture is an independent agency dedicated to supporting Plymouth’s cultural development, and to helping organisations, communities and events flourish. Agreement has been secured for Plymouth Culture to host and lead the CEP, as a recognised sub-committee of the Plymouth Culture Board. Terms of reference have been developed and agreed, including 50% representation of young people on the board. Discussions have also started with the Teaching School’s Culture and Arts Network, whose focus is developing the capacity of teachers.

As Bridge organisation for the south west we have compiled a range of infographics drawing together data from ACE and from government to give an overview of cultural education in Plymouth. This snapshot will help anyone interested in cultural education in Plymouth have a greater understanding of the context for children and young people in this locality. The data may also help with bid writing and comparing with other localities as well as for identifying priorities in each area. We’ll be reviewing these quarterly and will update them with any new figures that are available.
