Cultural Education in Somerset

In Somerset there is close partnership working between a number of the county’s key arts organisations under the title ‘InspirED’ who work together as a consortium, commissioned at strategic level by schools, in order to provide a range of joined-up arts and cultural provision and services across the education sector. For more information on the Somerset Cultural Education Partnership please contact Phil Shepherd at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The InspirED members and partner schools also work closely with a range of other cultural education partners in Somerset and beyond, including museums and libraries, as well as connecting strategically to the county’s music education hub.

As part of discussions with key partners, a CEC launch has been suggested as a way to open the forum for Somerset based discussions. Deb Richardson has agreed to co-ordinate the event and as Bridge, we will continue to give our support as and when required throughout the process.

As Bridge organisation for the south west we have compiled a range of infographics drawing together data from ACE and from government to give an overview of cultural education in Somerset. This snapshot will help anyone interested in cultural education in Somerset have a greater understanding of the context for children and young people in this locality. The data may also help with bid writing and comparing with other localities as well as for identifying priorities in each area. We’ll be reviewing these quarterly and will update them with any new figures that are available.

There are some really interesting tools and data sets which are freely available – including the Arts Council’s ‘cultural education data toolkit’ – along with a range of other databases focussed on cost of interventions for children and young people, disadvantage, health and education. You can take a look at these resources using the links below.

Briefings and training events

We run a range of briefing and training events throughout the year, designed to support anyone in the south west working with young people around arts and culture.

We don’t have any scheduled events in Somerset right now.
