Arts and cultural organisations in the South West are now able to download valuable resources from previous events and workshops led by the South West Heritage Volunteer Forum, through the South West Federation of Museums and Art Galleries website.

RIO recently supported the South West Heritage Volunteer Forum on an event aimed at arts and cultural organisations working proactively with volunteers. The “Achieving Meaningful Engagement with Young People as Volunteers” event took place on 27th March at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Somerset.

There are some useful resources which have come out of this event and previous volunteer-focused events from arts and cultural representatives who presented at the event, and you can download the various case studies and presentations here.

There are also useful resources from previous seminars which took place around investing in volunteers. You can find all of these on the Museum Development Partnership section of their website. This will also include details of any upcoming sessions.

Other useful training and events happening in the South West region can be found here.

There are some helpful policies and guidelines around working with volunteers, which can be found here.

The South West Heritage Volunteer Forum is a support network for volunteer managers and the wider volunteer community and enables people to share best practice around volunteering.

Elizabeth Neathey, Museums Development Officer for Bath, North East Somerset and Swindon says, “Volunteering-focused events such as these are the foundation from which we build a strong and sustainable partnership around which more children and young people will benefit in terms of cultural engagement”.
