Dance and Dramatic Singing INSETs – Royal Opera House
In the next school year, Royal Opera House will be hosting a series of full-day practical training INSETs that explore the ‘building blocks’ of dance and dramatic singing to inspire cross-curricular learning.
This suite of programmes will support teachers to take a step into ROH’s world with confidence, and will feature bespoke follow-up sessions to provide additional mentoring where necessary.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland provides the stimulus for cross-curriculur learning, particularly literacy. On her journey, Alice encounters a cast of extraordinary and instantly recognisable characters. The result brings together world-class dance with enchanting family entertainment.

Romeo and Juliet explores story-telling through music and movement. Kenneth MacMillan’s passionate choreography for Romeo and Juliet shows the Royal Ballet at its finest, whilst Sergey Prokofiev’s iconic score provides the basis for the ballet’s romantic pas de deux and vibrant crowd scenes. It has been performed by The Royal Ballet more than four hundred times since, as well as touring the world, and has become a true classic of the 20th-century ballet repertory.

Hansel and Gretel – a full-day practical training INSET that will provide you with the tools you will need to stage your own performance. Antony McDonald’s production pays tribute to the picture-book German landscape and to the enchanting fairytale narratives of the Brothers Grimm, while mindful of the story’s darker aspects.
