Beyond Face – 2,000 Stories

Jun 11, 2019

Beyond Face theatre comapny will be making their debut in the Drum, Theatre Royal Plymouth this June with their new show 2,000 Stories, as part of the Mayflower 400 programme.

“I’m bringing everything I ever knew- everything good, strong, kind and powerful. I bring it all with me into every situation. […] So I will take the Scandinavian story of the Little Princess, I will take the story of Heidi in the Alpine Mountains, I will take the story of O-Lan in Pearl S. Buck’s book The Good Earth, I will take them all. I take them, and I know them, and I am them. So when I walk into a room, people know that somebody has come in- they just don’t know it’s 2,000 people!” – Maya Angelou during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, December 2000.

This is a show about stories; the ones that have stayed with us, the ones we have forgotten and the ones we may have been forced to hear. Who decides on the selection of stories we are told and are we really listening anyway?

Following the sold-out success of Mixed Grill, Beyond Face return to Theatre Royal Plymouth making their Drum performance debut. Previous work includes Who’s Looking Back at You?Mixed Grill and Mixed Up Me.

Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the Mayflower 400 Cultural Fund.

Age guidance: 14+
Running time: 1hr (approx.)
Photography by Dom Moore.

The show will be performed in the Drum, Theatre Royal Plymouth between Wednesday 19th – Saturday 22nd June 2019, and Exeter Phoenix between Sat 29th – Sunday 30th June 2019.
